Photos from the Minnesota Street Rod Association "Back to the 50's" Weekend June 13-15, 2003 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul. All photos taken with an Argus A-Four camera (fully manual, no rangefinder, no batteries) on Kirkland Signature Film-a local store brand made by Agfa. Day shots on ISO 200, late afternoon and night shots ISO 400 films. No computer manipulation in the scans, except for some occasional cropping to trim off a stray arm or foot from the street crowd. All photos © Tim Verthein 2003.

I have a knack for just holding the camera up over my head and taking overall view photos. This is one of them. See how bright chrome can cause bright spots? Who knew with the camera 3 feet over my head! |

Nice traditional looking hot rod. |

My Dad, Ken, standing by our 1958 Edsel. |
|
This one obviously under construction! I believe it's a 1953 Chevrolet. |
|
Variety of hubcaps and license plates available for purchase at one of the many vendors. |
|
It looks like it's from England, but has Minnesota plates. |

Snappy looking Studebaker |

Candy Clark (Debby) and Bo Hopkins (Joe-leader of the Pharoahs) from the movie American Graffiti..the greatest movie ever made. They were selling 8x10's and signing autographs. Great folks to chat with. |

My wife's friend Ann (background) her daughter Amya, and my daughter Stacia. Svailable light, inside the Space Tower. |

View of downtown St. Paul, taken thru the plexiglass windows of the Space Tower. Kinda postcard looking! |

As night began to move in I put in ISO 400 film and made some time exposures. This one I leaned the camera against a tree and guess about a half second exposure. |
|
Our Edsel at night. Green effect I suppose from the street lights. Set the camera on a cement ramp on the side of the building, and exposed for a couple seconds. (the sky which appears a bit blue, was actually black at this time). |
|
Another night scene. Set the camera on the hood of the Edsel and took a time exposure while the traffic was stopped. |

This booth was doing on the spot custom pinstriping. f: 3.5 1/25th, handheld, dark night shot, with the car under halogen work lights. |
