Once again Iowa served up a perfect day for some Corvair fun! The short report is....I took 2 seconds off my best time from last year, but my Son Ryan managed to still beat me by a couple seconds with his best run. I blame it on slippery track conditions by my later in the day, hotter track run-and the fact that he has lower, meaner rubber on his car (he was in IS2). For other Early fans Team Early cars were rather poorly represented this year, with only THREE 60-64 cars entered. #24, Bill Schmelling was cursed with a dropped valve seat after his first run, which left 2, myself and Jim Dallas in his good running early in SM1 class (I was SS1 as was Bill). Have a look at the photos. Yellow seems to be the new color for the season-that's me in the '64 with chrome wheels/bumpers, Jim Dallas in the early with the black bezels, and my Son Ryan in the '65 same color as mine. I did OK with 1st in class and longest distance driven to the event. Others came a greater distance but trailered their Corvairs. Lots of fairly raw, unedited photos below. You can see the tote board with times, names, etc. I suppose I must include the disclaimer- "times are not officieal until published by the ICE club" As usual if you see a photo of you or your car, and you would like a high resolution copy of the photo just e-mail me with the picture number and I'll e-mail it to you. Another great day of Corvair fun, and next year will be the 10th annual! Links below for Youtube videos of my Son and I on the track.
